About This Design
When the phone rings and the news is bad, someone has to deliver it. In this case, apparently, that someone is a very serious-looking cat. “We Deliver Bad News” turns an ordinary telephone call into a delightfully deadpan cat joke, featuring a fluffy colorpoint cat holding a bright yellow vintage-style receiver as if delivering terrible news is simply part of the daily schedule.
The humor comes from the contrast between the cat’s sweet appearance and the wonderfully blunt message above it. The bold lettering reads “WE DELIVER BAD NEWS” with the playful phone number “CALL 1800-WHY-ME,” giving the design the feel of a cheeky old-school service advertisement. It is the kind of visual gag that makes you look twice, then appreciate the joke.
